When we moved to 'the farm', getting closer to thirty years ago, I moved, by hand, something like 30 tonnes of stones, for rock gardens I wanted, and for other bits of landscaping on the property.  Depending on location, weathering, there are new sites for algae, lichens, mosses.  Nothing like the stone fences in our area that created by early settlers, but my little contribution to their substantial contribution.  Not all change is good, but change is opportunity too.
